I think digital technology in schools is something relevant to the learning of todays generation. Digital Technology is found in almost every aspect of an individuals life through todays day and age, so teaching through digital technology and teaching students how to use it is something that will benefit them in the long run. Digital Technology can benefit students who take too long to write notes, are dyslexic etc. Sharing information is varied with the use of tablets and laptops within the classroom. Students also feel more engaged within the lesson as learning is much more relevant in terms of using resources they’ll be able to use at home. Students can also take these digitally learnt skills from the classroom out into the real world when leaving school and also use these skills within their own personal learning etc.
Lee Crocketts video was very eye opening as well as he talks about how we need to “Prepare students for their future”. This is something that I had to sit and think on as digital technology is becoming more prominent in and outside of school, students of todays day and age need to interact with digital technologies more. This means as teachers, we need to step up in being able to incorporate these things for our tamariki and get them learning in the most relevant way – the way they learn – not the way that we learnt. Something I took away form the video was that we as teachers are life long learners too. Even though we may leave university with degrees, we need to continue learning as this keeps our teaching relevant.
